Are you a pain to work with?
Most people argue that open-mindedness and flexibility are qualities that serve well both in and outside the workplace. What we don't know, however, is that often, our personal style of doing things has become habitual enough to become a stagnant routine. Perhaps you've been doing things the same way for so long that you no longer have the ability to look at situations from a different viewpoint.
To measure your flexibility, take this simple quiz. After reading each question, rate your current method of working on the scale of 1 to 10. Fill in the blanks based on your usual response, and add up the points.

Never Sometimes Always
_____ I can see things from several perspectives. I shift easily in my thought patterns and my approaches to problem solving. I value the input of others and generally seek their suggestions.
_____ I'm generally prepared to deal with change and am flexible so that I believe there is more than one way to deal with a situation. "That's the way we've always done it" is not part of my vocabulary. I often look for new approaches and break down old ways of thinking.
_____ I am very concerned about my physical and mental health and I take time to recharge both my body and my mind. I get regular physical exercise of some kind and I do something relaxing at least twice a week.
_____ I don't take my situation or myself overly seriously. I'm the first one to laugh at myself and I can always find some humor in any situation.
_____ I keep current with the world in which I work. I share ideas with colleagues and co-workers, read industry trade journals and just make a real effort to stay on top of the changes that affect my industry and my company.
_____ In the past year, I've either planned or participated in two training programs to enhance my skills. And I made sure my staff kept up to date by participating in education as well.
_____ I make time for my family and friends. I believe that balance between work life and family life is important and I make an effort to do more than simply drive the kids to school or do the laundry. I am involved in the lives of those I care about.
49 – 70 = You're very flexible and work well with others.
28 – 48 = You're fairly flexible but need to work on seeing other viewpoints.
